Homemade Teddy Bear Hamster Toys

Every teddy bear hamster or gerbil owner knows how they love to play and explore.

These days you can buy all sorts of toys at the pet store to keep your pet rodents amused and entertained. One of the most widely used toys for the rodents is the running wheel. This will give them as much exercise as they need. However, it is nice to provide them with other types of toys to stimulate them. There are hamster toys that will encourage your hamster to climb or dig.

However, not everyone will have access to a pet store to buy these toys. It may be that the pet store is a long way from your home or even that you are not prepared to spend a lot of money on toys for your hamster. But there is no need to spend any money at all to keep your little pet amused. With a little imagination, you can easily make your own hamster toys.

Here are a few ideas to get you started.

The smaller teddy bear hamsters just love the cardboard roll from an empty toilet roll. If your pet is a little on the tubby side, you may have to find a cardboard roll from the middle of the kitchen towels. Your hamster will probably burrow his way into the cardboard tube or even hide inside it. The teddy bear hamster just loves to hide and burrow!

  • A tissue box is another free hamster toy. Before you give it to him, you should remove any traces of the plastic that is sometimes found on a tissue box. Put the box in your hamster’s cage and enjoy the show! My hamster just loves to hide in this new toy that has appeared in his home.
  • For even more entertainment, you could expand this simple idea by connecting a few of these tissue boxes and cardboard tubes together to create a great adventure playground for your hamster.
  • Another toy that you could make for your teddy bear hamster requires a little more work. Using cardboard, you can create a hamster maze. To make this simple hamster toy you will require and empty cardboard soda flat along with some scraps of cardboard. Tear your scraps of cardboard in to long strips to make some walls in your hamster’s maze. You will then need to use some glue to stick these cardboard strips to the soda flat to construct a maze. Make it interesting and give him a way in and out. Put you teddy bear hamster at the entrance and wave him goodbye as he goes off to explore his new toy.

The home made teddy bear hamster toys that you could make are only limited by your imagination and think of all the cash that you can save whilst giving your teddy bear hamster lots of exercise and even more fun.
